Kids require a lot of storage for their toys, books and games. And if your home resembles Santa’s workshop at the end of a long shift don’t worry, you are not alone! I’ve searched through a really wide range of storage ideas and here are my top picks of stylish and funky storage solutions for kid’s rooms. The one guideline I gave myself is that they must be fun and practical. Take a look at my selection and I’d love to know what you think.

Modular Storage

These modular storage units below and on the main feature image s are one of my favourite storage solutions. They can be used as standard bookshelves, or you can add a number of different storage cubes or baskets to create a unique look.

Storage Cubes

Once you have your basic modular structure in place, you can add woven or canvas storage boxes to accommodate many a toy collection. Not only is this a clever and practical design idea, it’s fun and funky too. With so many different storage boxes to choose from, you really can personalise your kid’s room. From soft chalky blues …

To bright and bold primary colours.

Storage Benches

Using the similar idea of modular storage, this storage bench also incorporates a seat, with a practical machine washable cover. A must for those all important quiet This animal pals bench is a lovely, lively variation on the storage bench idea. Complete with bright, fun characters, it wold look equally great at the foot of a bed or along a wall.

Portable Storage

Carry Caddies like these are invaluable for keeping kid’s craft work essentials neat and tidy. They’re also ideal for tint toys and stationery. They include three storage sections and a fun, blackboard label. You can also choose from an engaging selection of colours. These forward facing, freestanding bookcases caught my eye immediately as they would be perfect for early readers. Young children tend to judge a book by it’s cover, so what better way to encourage interaction than with these sling bookcases. With so many of their favourite books on open view, this should really encourage little ones to pick up a book, and equally, to put it back in these trendy bookcases.

Wall Mounted Bookcases

If space is at a premium, and to be honest, isn’t it always, then these star book ledges are a brilliant option. Available in several colours, this simple shelving option has a shallow ledge which is ideal for books, magazines or comics. If you hang several together, not only will they make an excellent wall feature, they’ll provide plenty of unobtrusive additional storage.

Super Cute Novelty Bookcases

Having somewhere cute and accessible to keep their favourite books from an early age is a wonderful way to encourage kids to pick up a book to read or just glance through at an early age. This child size cat and dog pull along trolleys will help keep books and toys easier to find and will make tidying them up much more fun too.

Bi-Plane Wall Shelf

It’s quite small, but this quirky bi-plane wall shelf would add a dash of character to any kid’s bedroom especially one with an aviation or vehicle theme.

Town House Bookcase

Designed in the shape of a house, the idea is to encourage kids can use this for both play and storage, again, the less boring utilitarian storage is, hopefully, the more it will be used to keep everything tidy.

Funky Kid’s Storage

Finally, a look at some really funky kid’s storage. First up is a trunk for toys that looks just like a suitcase. Perfect for everything needed when it’s time to go on an adventure at home. The practical handle makes the trunk easy to take out and put away, even for small children. It’s also easy to open and close since the lid attaches with touch-and-close fastening. It’s also available in several colours to coordinate with different themes.

Lego Storage Boxes

These toy storage boxes are a novel way to stylishly store away all the little toys that are hard to hide away ! Officially licensed by Lego, they look stunning stacked in a variety of colours. I think these work so well in an older kid’s bedroom.

A funky JCB-themed toy box that will fire any child’s imagination, especially if construction or transport is your chosen theme. The JCB my 1st skip toy box is a fantastic little item. The ‘skip’  simply slots together with no screws, glue or fixings used, so it should be super quick to assemble at home and start getting all those toys in.
